Flashback Friday: Here’s Humphrey

Friday, November 20th, 2009 by Susannah

Here's Humphrey - AGE 2

Left: Me at 21months (1975) watching Here’s Humphrey on the television whilst getting some important ‘work’ done in my orange gumboots.

Right: Christmas Day 1975 (I turned 2 the day before). Loving the red mary janes.

The theme seems to be shoes and Humphrey B. Bear! I actually saw a sit on Humphrey like that in a local Antique shop a little while back…I was tempted purely from a nostalgic perspective and the idea of a ‘copy’ photo setup with Caitlin appealed….then I slapped myself and realised I really had nowhere to put a huge 3o year old stuffed toy (I am sure Rohan was very relieved)! It’s funny looking at these old polaroids, especially now that Caitlin is exactly the same age. Spookily Eloise asked to watch Humphrey earlier.

Humphrey was also in the news as recently as yesterday. Poor old Humphrey, oh how I loved you, it really didn’t matter that you were mute, never wore pants and when you went to sleep or played hide and seek you had to put your hands over your eyes because they would not close….theme song anyone? Altogether now…

What a funny old fellow is Humphrey,
Humphrey the fun loving bear!

Thrifty Thursday Goodies

November Thrifting

I’ve been having fun op-shopping lately and discovered many little treasures aside from the usual stash of clothes and toys for the girls. Click below for a closer look!

top row:
Australian Native Flower Press
(Dynamo House Melbourne). I have been meaning to get a new one for a while. This is brand new and a decent size! I think Eloise will be out the front looking for four leaf clovers to press very soon; five rolls of Florist ribbon in pinks (perfect for decorating all the fairy themed birthdays coming up!). I like the type ‘Magenta’ on the reel in the photo…there is another one that says ‘Dusty Rose’; Ikecho Japanese Dancing Clown music box. He dances to the ‘French Can Can’!!

middle row:
Silver brooch
;
a little pixie ceramic ornament. Looks very fifties and he’s small and sweet; six different vintage Selex decals. Love them and too scared to use them in case they don’t work!

bottom row:
1982 Muppets/Sesame Street ceramic mug. This ‘Winter’ mug matches an ‘Autumn’ one I have that must have been from the same series; gorgeous wooden tree puzzle; bisque porcelain Holly Hobbie pin cushion “What’s sewn with love lasts forever”

My other baby…

cakes

I have a deadline tomorrow and will be up until all hours tonight so I just thought I would sneak this post in with 10 minutes to spare before pumpkin time. This is my lovely Caitlin at Tathra Beach in September. She’s such a gem. She’s not well tonight and has been a bit under the weather since Friday with a tummy bug. It’s been a long week with not much sleep and we all can’t wait until the weekend!

I do however have a treasure trove of goodies to photograph in the morning for Thrifty Thursday. I am quite pleased with my latest haul of little things so stay tuned and cross your fingers I get time to get the camera out tomorrow!

Eloise (Rachel & David's Wedding April 09)

I am going through all of our family photos from 2009 to put together some books for Christmas (we made hard covered photobooks from here last year and they were a big hit!).

These are a few of my favourites. This is my Eloise as a flower girl at her Uncle David’s wedding back in April. She will be five in a few weeks time. Five!? I can hardly believe it. We bought her school uniform last week and she looked so small but so grown up. Happy, sad, excited, nervous…and that’s only me! She is such a joy and oh so very funny! It wasn’t so long ago she looked like this, or this. My lovely girl is growing up fast!

Prop Studio Plane Setting 2

Prop Studio Plane Setting 1

I have posted one of these studio/prop aeroplane photographs before {over here}. I am strangely drawn to them, perhaps because some look so peculiar? There’s something very bizarre and disconcerting about some of them.

Is it the proportion and warped scale? Or is it setups and strange anomalies like the spooky bodiless boy gripping on for dear life with his lone hand (left)…or could it be the expression on their faces? Don’t they look like they’re having a great time in the photo below? I am sure they are supposed to be having fun!

Unfortunately these images don’t have a great deal of information on the back. The one at the top was taken in 1928 and the one to the left was taken at the Spence Lees Studios, Laxey. And that’s unfortunately all I know about them. I wish I knew where they were all taken, was it at a studio, a portable studio at a funfair, on a pier, who are the people, what were they doing? Why did they decide to have their picture in the faux plane? It’s all a bit of a mystery really!
