‘Joyce as a Fairy’

Date: Unspecified
People: Joyce
Studio: Broothorn Studio, Melbourne (active in Australia 1900s –1940s)
Postcard Back: “Joyce as a Fairy, at Mrs Fred Fairbairn’s Ball”

Notes: This is perhaps the best photo I have of a vintage fairy/butterfly fancy dress costume. It’s simply gorgeous! The detail is superb from the delicately crafted wings to her fine antennae and the tiny butterfly under her chin.

I am intrigued by Mrs Fred Fairbairns Ball! What was it in aid of? Who was Fred Fairbairn? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have more images from the same event? Just imagine!

Love that vintage photo. I am dying to make some pendants with mimi vintage collages. The best site I have found so far to get images is art-e-zine.co.uk. Where is your favourite?

    Hi,

I would love to buy a copy of this fairy to. She is adorable. I really like the fairy photos you took of your daughter. That pink dress is perfect for her.
